How to measure your share of voice in ChatGPT answers

Updated November 2, 2026

Short answer: Share of voice in AI answers is the share of answers to your buyers’ questions that name you, next to the same share for each competitor. Ask a fixed set of questions on each AI engine every week, count who is named, and average over several weeks so one odd answer does not swing it.

The formula

Share of voice = answers that name you ÷ all answers checked. Work it out the same way for each competitor, per engine and per topic.

Example: 20 questions on 4 engines is 80 answers a week. If 12 name you and 30 name your main competitor, your share is 15% and theirs is 38%.

Keep the number steady

  • Use the same questions every week, so weeks compare.
  • Average over 4 weeks: one run is a sample, not a verdict.
  • Report a range (a confidence interval), not just one number, when the sample is small.

See which competitors AI recommends instead of you

For every answer that does not name you, note who it does name. Grouped by topic, that list shows where each competitor wins. ChatKeywords shows this as a leaderboard per topic, with the actual answers behind every number.

See which of your pages AI cites and reads

Citations show which pages an answer used: record the source links and mark the ones on your site. To see which pages AI crawlers actually read, look at crawler visits in your server or CDN logs, or use ChatKeywords’ AI crawler analytics (Growth plan and up). Start with the free AI crawler checker to make sure they can get in.
